Tax and Salary Guides for Indians

Salary, PF, tax and freelancing income made simple.

Where do you start if tax season confuses you?

You don’t need to become a tax expert. You just need to know a few things about your own salary.

  1. Know which regime you’re in. Your choice between the old and new tax regime changes how much tax you pay. Our old vs new regime guide compares both with salary examples.
  2. Check your payslip once. Look for basic pay, HRA, PF and TDS. If PF is being cut but not showing in your passbook, read PF deducted but not credited.
  3. Match Form 16 with Form 26AS. The tax your employer says it deducted should show up in your tax records.
  4. File on time. Even if you owe no tax, filing a return builds a record that helps with loans and visas later.

What other guides on tax, salary and PF can help you?

Why does Arocol write about PF so much?

I’ll be honest: these guides come from my own life. My PF was deducted from my salary for months and never reached my EPFO account. Finding out what to do took weeks of reading circulars and forms.

So if your passbook looks wrong, don’t wait and hope it fixes itself. Check your passbook every few months, keep your salary slips, and complain early. Our PF guides show exactly where and how.

What do people often ask about tax and salary?

Can I switch tax regimes every year?

Salaried people can usually choose each year when filing. People with business income have stricter rules, so check the current rules on the income tax portal.

Is my Diwali bonus taxed?

Yes. A bonus from your employer is part of your salary and is taxed the same way.

Can AI fill my ITR?

AI can explain sections and terms. Don’t upload your Form 16, PAN or bank details to any AI tool. File on the official portal or with a qualified professional.
